VETERINARY SERVICES

  • Sound immunization programs are essential for maintaining herd health and productivity. CWAS works with you to create an immunization program that adapts to the unique needs of your dairy. Whether your herd is closed, or is continually moving animals in or out, our veterinarians create vaccine protocols that work on your farm.

  • Reproduction on modern dairy farms has become very challenging and is constantly changing. New computerized estrus detection systems have taken over some of the synchronization programs of the past. We utilize either a single method or a combination of methods to create the best reproduction program for your dairy. The CWAS veterinarian works on the farm with you and your employees to implement programs, allowing you to maximize your profitability.

  • CWAS offers routine disease diagnosis and treatment. We run mastitis cultures in-house to efficiently provide results and treatment recommendations. CWAS also works closely with the labs of UW-Wisconsin and at the University of Minnesota, giving us access to better tools and information for obtaining proper diagnoses of herd or individual cow problems.

  • CWAS veterinarians perform a full range of surgical procedures, from traditional abdominal surgery, such as reduction of a displaced abomasum or calf hernias, to elective procedures, such as rumen cannulation. Emergency surgical services are also offered.

  • Ultrasound services are used exclusively for pregnancy detection. This allows the veterinarian to determine pregnancy status more efficiently than traditional palpation allows. Ultrasound provides for earlier pregnancy detection and more accurate detection of uterine problems such as pyometra, abnormal fluids or adhesions, and detection of twin embryos.

    Other services provided by ultrasound:

Superior Determination of Ovarian Structure | Fetal Heartbeat | Fetal Sexing | Reduction of Twins

  • Dr. Andrew Martin is currently one of only 15 veterinarians in the state of Wisconsin, certified to perform federal health assessments for fish and aquatic species. He has taken an active role in transforming the aquaculture industry locally and continues to build relationships and create solutions for challenges currently facing the production of healthy fish in the central United States. By incorporating skill set derived from a career in production medicine and agriculture, he is well versed in both the best practices as well as the economically feasible production of fish and aquatic species. Dr. Martin understands the value aquaculture brings to the agricultural sectors as well as the protein value it brings to those who consume it. Because feeding people is part of our passion at CWAS, Dr. Martin is excited to help advance the technology and practices associated with growing fish as a protein source.

  • From backyard bee keeping to commercial pollination services, Apis mellifera (Honey Bees) occasionally need veterinary intervention. If you are a beginning bee keeper that needs instruction on how to detect disease and general husbandry of bees or a commercial bee keeper that needs a script per the Veterinary Feed Directive, please contract Dr. Andrew Martin. He has completed several courses in bee health and even has a few hives of his own.

  • While dedicated to the dairy industry, Central Wisconsin Ag services recognizes the importance of our minor production species industries; such as aquaculture and honey bee medicine. Using the knowledge of production medicine, Dr. Andrew Martin is focused on helping you make decisions that ultimately lead to a more economical product. Both industries are thriving in Wisconsin and Dr. Andrew Martin has enjoyed serving those clients. Because he understands their importance, he has taken several continuing education courses and attended several conferences on the subject matters.

  • Dr. Martin specializes in honey bee medicine and aquaculture.

CONSULTING SERVICES

  • CWAS helps increase labor efficiencies through hands-on employee and management training. By implementing specific management tools, CWAS assists farms with:

    Decreasing employee turnover

    Increasing on-farm communication

    Improving management transparency

    Benchmark program implementation

Creating clear expectations for success among both employees and management.

With our dedicated labor consulting techniques, dairies are able to reduce the costs and frustrations associated with employee management.

  • CWAS offers full service milk quality consulting. We are dedicated to helping our clients create an environment where they can produce the highest quality milk as efficiently as possible. CWAS has Spanish-speaking associates on staff and can help cultivate a great relationship between our veterinarians and your Hispanic teams on your dairy. Milk Quality is more than bulk tank somatic cell count. Mastitis prevention and treatment is an integral part, but milking consistency, parlor efficiency, and cow comfort both in the barn and parlor are very important as well.

  • CWAS Veterinarians can help collect and submit samples for bulk tank, bedding, or individual milk culture at a university lab, and will work with you to interpret the results. We can also train you or your staff to run milk cultures on-farm for individual mastitis cases. Studies have consistently shown that waiting 24 hours for culture results does not lower the probability of a cure, and can reduce intramammary antibiotic use by 50% or more.

  • FACILITIES EVALUATION

CWAS can assess your barn, cow and parlor hygiene, as well as a thorough evaluation of your milking system. This will guide decisions on where to focus efforts to prevent mastitis, improve cow comfort in the barn and parlor, and increase parlor efficiency.

    PARLOR CREW

The CWAS team can evaluate your parlor team’s prep, milking, and post milking procedures. The timing and consistency of each step is critical to proper milk let down and efficient milk out. A better prep leads to shorter milking times, healthier udders, and increased parlor throughput. We have the ability to assess procedures, train parlor crews, and help monitor performance to ensure procedure compliance.

    COW

The cow is the most important aspect of your farm’s success. Thus, a CWAS Veterinarian will evaluate your dairy’s overall udder hygiene, teat end condition, and cow behavior. Locomotion scoring, teat end scoring, and cow rest analysis of your dairy can be done as well. Putting all of these tests together will help CWAS and your dairy team continue to create the best possible environment for the cows on your dairy.

    RECORDS

Data and data collection systems are only as valuable as the analysis and implementation of procedures derived from them. CWAS can evaluate your Dairy Comp data to help you analyze many different issues. These can include cell count data, infection trends, treatment records, protocol compliance. CWAS Vets and technicians also have experience in AFI-Farm software as well.

  • Veterinarians at CWAS will create management protocols to fit the needs of your dairy. Planning daily work schedules, designing treatment protocols, breeding programs and vaccination schedules are done to meet the needs of each operation to maximize profitability.

  • CWAS is constantly collecting data from Dairy Comp® files to create a unique benchmarking program that takes on-farm data and looks at key management areas on-farm. This data is also compared with other well-managed dairies that are comparable in size to help highlight weak areas or bottlenecks facing the operation.

In accordance with federal law, prescription product purchases require a current Veterinarian-Client-Patient-Relationship (VCPR). As these rules are changing to include a “Veterinarian of Record” we are working to develop stronger ties with all farms seeking to purchase our products. This will insure that products are being used in accordance with federal law and it will guarantee our support and assistance in the event of a meat or milk residue.

For this reason, prior to purchasing prescription products, one of our veterinarians must have an established knowledge of your operation, treatment protocols and animals. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.

To learn more or to establish a VCPR/Veterinarian of Record relationship with CWAS, please call 715.896.2569 and schedule an appointment for a farm visit.

  • We are now Quickbooks certified and can assist with any small business financial services. We are able to do all of the bookwork and have it ready for your tax accountant. We also have a Preparer Tax Identification Number.
